Numerical Catalyst in an Excel add-in that supports iterative step by step models, for example a year by year economic analysis, and also equation based dynamic simulation.

The applications of this add-in to Excel are wide ranging from physics, economics, logistics through to engineering. It's an ideal application for learning the getting rapidly to grips with dynamic simulation.

The Numerical Catalyst add-in is no longer being commercially distributed.

Technical requirements; Windows XP, Vista or 7, Excel versions 2010, 2007, 2003 or 2002 ( also known as Office XP ). Currently has not been tested against Windows 8, but the trial can be downloaded for free.

    • Models are created as a set of equations and declarations. Writing a model is assisted by an embedded context-sensitive editor, and then saved into a standard Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The Key features include:models stored, run and results saved in the Excel sheets;

    • sharing models as easy as sharing Excel workbooks;

    • the full reporting and charting capabilities of Excel can be used directly;

    • tables of data can be incorporated directly into models;

    • limit variable ranges;

    • conditional equations, and;

    • information from elsewhere in the spreadsheet can be included in a model.

    • arrays supported, including those which are given as sheets inside an Excel workbook.
